School Programmes

Supporting tamariki and rangatahi to build confidence, stay safe, and thrive in the water.
Our school programmes provide accessible, engaging experiences that develop essential water skills while introducing the excitement of diving.
At Canterbury Diving, our school programmes are designed to support the wellbeing, safety, and confidence of tamariki and rangatahi across our community.

Through our partnerships with schools, we provide accessible – and in many cases free – programmes that help students build essential water skills, develop confidence in deep water, and experience the joy of movement in a safe and supportive environment.

Our programmes are tailored to suit different age groups and can be adapted to meet the needs of each school, ensuring every student has the opportunity to participate and benefit.

Primary schools (years 1–6)

Deep Water Confidence Passport

Our Deep Water Confidence Passport programme focuses on building strong foundations in water confidence and safety for younger students.

This programme supports tamariki to:
  • Feel safe and confident in deep water
  • Learn safe entries and how to control their body in the water
  • Develop fundamental movement skills such as jumping, floating, and basic shapes
  • Build awareness of water safety in a fun, engaging way

By creating positive early experiences, we help children develop lifelong skills that contribute to their safety, confidence, and overall wellbeing in and around water.

Secondary schools (years 7–13)

JumpSmart Safety & Confidence Initiative

Our JumpSmart Safety & Confidence Initiative is designed for rangatahi and focuses on safe movement, body control, and confidence in aquatic environments.

Through this programme, students:
  • Learn how to enter and move in the water safely and confidently
  • Develop strength, coordination, and body awareness
  • Build skills that support safe jumping, landing, and movement in and around water
  • Gain confidence trying new skills in a supportive environment

This programme plays an important role in promoting water safety and helping young people make safer choices in and around pools, rivers, and open water.

Designed for schools, built for community

We understand that every school and community is different. That’s why we:
  • Offer programmes that can be tailored to suit your students, schedule, and needs
  • Work with schools to ensure sessions are accessible and inclusive
  • Aim to remove barriers to participation wherever possible, including offering free programmes where funding allows

Our goal is simple – to ensure more young people in our community feel confident, capable, and safe in the water.

Pathway opportunities

For students who show interest or potential, we offer opportunities to continue their diving journey through:
  • Free trial sessions
  • Phase 2 testing (pool-based assessment)
  • Ongoing club programmes

While progression is available, our primary focus remains on community participation, confidence, and safety for all.
