Our Structure

How Canterbury Diving Community Trust is governed and operated to deliver safe, sustainable, and high-quality programmes for our community.

Governance

Board of Trustees
Canterbury Diving Community Trust is a registered charitable trust governed by a Board of Trustees who provide strategic oversight and ensure the organisation operates responsibly and in line with its charitable purpose.

The Board is responsible for:
  • Setting strategic direction
  • Ensuring financial oversight and sustainability
  • Maintaining strong governance and compliance
  • Supporting long-term growth and impact

Leadership and operations

Canterbury Diving, Auckland Diving, and Diving Ōtākou operate as aligned regional programmes within a shared national framework. This approach streamlines governance and management across all three entities, supporting a more sustainable future for diving in New Zealand while maintaining strong, locally delivered programmes.

Leadership is shared across the network, with a central management team providing consistency and direction. This includes a Chief Executive Officer working across all entities, alongside a National Development Manager supporting programme growth and ensuring consistency, alignment, and delivery across regions. By aligning leadership, systems, and planning, we are able to operate more efficiently while continuing to invest in quality coaching and athlete development.

At the same time, each programme remains connected to its local community, ensuring that delivery is responsive, accessible, and tailored to the needs of its divers. This balance allows us to maintain high standards, clear pathways, and a consistent experience for athletes nationwide.
Our management team is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and delivery of Canterbury Diving's programmes and initiatives.

How we work
Canterbury Diving operates with a clear separation between governance and delivery:
  • Board of Trustees – governance and oversight
  • Management Team – strategy and operations
  • Coaches – programme delivery

This structure ensures strong accountability while enabling effective day-to-day delivery.
Accountability & transparency
As a charitable trust, Canterbury Diving is committed to:
  • Responsible use of funding and resources
  • Delivering measurable community outcomes
  • Maintaining clear governance and reporting practices

Community Outreach Committee

We’re supported by a Community Outreach Committee made up of parents and whānau who are actively involved in our diving community.

This group plays an important role in:
  • Supporting fundraising initiatives
  • Helping bring our community together through events and activities

The committee reflects the strong sense of community around Canterbury Diving and helps ensure our programmes remain connected to the people we serve.
